I can't stop laughing! Now Trump is tweeting that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson never really called him a "moron," as reported by NBC News in a story today, which said Tillerson was so pissed at Trump after a July 20 Pentagon meeting that he wanted to resign and that Vice President Pence had to talk him out of it.
Well, to be precise, Trump didn't actually tweet that Tillerson didn't call him a moron, he just tweeted that NBC News' story was wrong and was "fake news," and that NBC was the fakiest news organization on the planet.
Said Trump, "NBC news is #FakeNews and more dishonest than even CNN. They are a disgrace to good reporting. No wonder their news ratings are way down!" Then, Trump tweeted, "The @NBCNews story has just been totally refuted by Sec. Tillerson and @VP Pence. It is #FakeNews. They should issue an apology to AMERICA!"
All of that would be hilarious if it wasn't so tragic that our country is led by someone who is such a narcissistic, self-absorbed, obnoxious jerk.
It would be hilarious, too, if it didn't come on the heels of that horrible shooting rampage in Las Vegas that took the lives of at least 58 people and injured more than 500, all because some lunatic with an arsenal of weapons rained terror upon 22,000 innocent concert-goers. And then the Republican leadership in Congress, bought and paid for by the NRA, said, uh, no, we won't be talking about gun control any time soon.
It would also be hilarious if it didn't come right after the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and Trump's insensitive statements that Puerto Rico was blowing a hole in the federal budget and needed to get its act together, even as the island nation was virtually drowning in floodwater, and his idea of fun was to toss paper towels at people who turned out to ask for help.
For my money, Tillerson was right. Our president is a moron.
