Trump: Why Accept People from 'Shithole' Countries?

Now we have a president who asks in an Oval Office meeting "Why are we having all these people from shithole countries coming here?" He was referring to immigrants from Haiti and other African countries and then said the U.S. should work to attract people from countries like Norway.

Not too many people of color there...

The Washington Post reported that Trump made the comment Thursday in the Oval Office when lawmakers at the meeting floated restoring protections for immigrants from Haiti, El Salvador and African countries as part of a bipartisan immigration deal.

That deal is supposed to include protections, perhaps even a path to citizenship, for young people who are part of the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, the "Dreamers," which was launched in 2012 by President Obama. During a made-for-TV "negotiating" session with lawmakers Wednesday, Trump said he would accept whatever bipartisan compromise was agreed to by the legislators.

However, true to form, he later backtracked and tweeted that any deal to help the DACA immigrants must include funding for his famous wall. He repeated that again today.

Here's how the White House responded to that racist and disgusting comment by our esteemed leader, as reported by The Post:

“Certain Washington politicians choose to fight for foreign countries, but President Trump will always fight for the American people. . .Like other nations that have merit-based immigration, President Trump is fighting for permanent solutions that make our country stronger by welcoming those who can contribute to our society, grow our economy and assimilate into our great nation.”

I don't care what your position might be about immigration, the wall, the DACA "Dreamers" or whatever. But to have a President sit there in the Oval Office with Congressional leaders and ask such a disgusting, racist question and think it's OK is intolerable and demeaning to our nation.

We are better than that.

This is America. Our nation was built by immigrants. Trump, himself, since he is not Native American, comes from immigrants. He is disgusting.
