Michael Avenatti, porn star and Trump ex-mistress Stormy Daniels' lawyer, says he will challenge President Trump in 2020 if he doesn't believe any other candidate in the race can beat him.
CNN said Avenatti followed that up with another tweet, saying "To those that claim that only a traditional politician with 'experience' can beat Trump, go back & look at the results from 2016. He beat all 15 of those candidates that he faced (crushed many). If we go down the same path and are not smart, don't be surprised with the result."
Avenatti told CNN's Jim Sciutto on "The Lead" that he has "brains, heart and courage," which he described as "three things that this President lacks." He added, "I'm deeply disturbed at the direction this country is taking," citing family separations at the US border and the President's approach to US trade policy.
To be sure, Avenatti has been impressive as he's become a cable news media star, capitalizing on the fame he's managed to build defending Daniels. But I have a difficult time envisioning the lawyer for someone as sleazy as Daniels being taken seriously as a presidential candidate.
However...who would have thought that Trump, egomaniac renowned, reality star best known for two words -- "Your fired" -- and real estate tycoon with multiple bankruptcies, would actually be president.
