Impeachment Talk: The New Reality

Today, President Trump and fellow Republicans are warning that if Democrats win control of the House of Representatives in the November 6 mid-term elections their first order of business will be to launch impeachment proceedings against Trump.

That comes as Democrats appear to be avoiding impeachment talk for fear of inciting Trump supporters and encouraging them to vote. Nevertheless, they are using the current climate to sharpen their attacks on the GOP as the party of corruption.

Trump, never slow to jump on an opportunity, told Fox News yesterday that “If I ever got impeached, I think the market would crash, I think everybody would be very poor, because without this thinking, you would see — you would see numbers that you wouldn’t believe in reverse.”

Once again, in Trump's mind, it's all about the money.

He said, “I don’t know how you can impeach somebody who’s done a great job.”

In fact, he gave his presidency an A+ grade, for all the wonderful things he's done like killing regulations designed to protect the environment, passing a tax law that makes millionaires even richer while bankrupting the country, and playing the race card every chance he gets.

But Democrats are treading carefully, not wanting to further incite Trump's base.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) sent a letter to Democratic House members asking them to keep speaking about economic issues, and focus on the “cesspool of self-enrichment, secret money and ethical blindness” that exists in Washington under Republican rule.

“It is our duty as Members of Congress to seek the truth, and hold the President and his administration accountable to the American people, and we will,” Pelosi wrote. “As November rapidly approaches, we must also stay focused on delivering our strong economic message to hard-working families across America.”

How incredible is it that the word "impeachment" has now entered the campaign conversation in a very real way -- for both parties?

How incredible is it that the news today is dominated by which Trump crony will fold next and squeal about the President's actions intended to illegally influence the election outcome and obstruct ongoing investigations into his behavior?

How incredible is it that so many Americans simply don't care about any of this? That they blindly support this man who is devastating our country, no matter what he does? Is it because he says what they think, regardless of the facts or the truth?

Enough for me.

I'm going out to cut the grass so I can get this stuff out of my head. And, I'm going to take my sweet time. It's a beautiful day and my lawn is a shaggy mess.
