Trump Decries the Political Violence that He Incites

President Trump today told the American people that we all must come together and play nice, stop saying mean things to each other and causing divisions that can lead to violence.

He decried political violence and in a calm and soothing voice said we all must come together. He is the one who has stoked political violence and continues to do so. I almost threw up.

Here's what he said last night at a rally in Wisconsin following the news of those pipe bombs

mailed to prominent Democrats, including former Presidents Obama and Clinton, who have been targets of his nastiness:

"Any acts or threats of political violence are an attack on our democracy itself. … Those engaged in the political arena must stop treating political opponents as morally defective. … No one should carelessly compare political opponents to historical villains. … We should not mob people in public spaces or destroy public property.

"There is one way to settle our disagreements. It’s called, “peacefully, at the ballot box.” As part of a larger national effort to bridge our divides and bring people together, the media also has a responsibility to set a civil tone and to stop the endless hostility and constant negative and oftentimes false attacks. … What we cannot do is let our differences about policy tear us apart as a country, can’t do that. We must accept the verdicts of elections."

What a bunch of passive-aggressive BS. Of course, he is right that such acts of violence are an attack on democracy and that people should stop treating their opponents as morally defective and that the way to settle disagreements is at the ballot box. "Mob people?" That's what he calls a peaceful demonstration -- if it opposes him or his policies.

The fact is that it is Trump who repeatedly has sought to incite his followers, playing to their basest prejudices, fears and emotions, and who has condoned violence against protestors and members of the media.

And then he doesn't like it when the media strikes back? When the media calls him out? Too bad, Mr. President.

Then, today a bunch of crazy right wing nutcases suggested it was the Democrats who actually dreamed up the #MAGAbomb idea to divert attention away from Trump's false claims about the people in the caravan or his blatant lie that there would be a 10 percent tax cut before the election for the middle class. Congress isn't even in session.

Trump is right. The way to settle disagreements is at the ballot box, and that is what will happen, one way or another, on November 6. Then, we will see who accepts the verdict.
