Verily I say unto you, President Trump has been sent to us by the Creator to protect us, to keep us safe from all harm, to hold us in the palm of his hand; to lift us up so that we might rejoice in the greatness that only he can provide.
That's what at least two of Trump's top sycophants apparently would have you believe, so it's no wonder that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders are so beloved by the president who yearns for adulation.
Yesterday, Pompeo agreed with an interviewer's suggestion that its possible God raised Donald Trump to be President so he could protect Israel from Iran.
In an interview in Jerusalem, Chris Mitchell, of the Christian Broadcast Network (CBN), asked Pompeo, "could it be that President Trump right now has been sort of raised for such a time as this, just like Queen Esther, to help save the Jewish people from the Iranian menace?" Esther is the main heroine of the Jewish holiday of Purim, which was celebrated this week, CNN noted in its report.
"As a Christian, I certainly believe that's possible," Pompeo said. (Check the video above if you don't believe me.)
Pompeo then said he is "confident that the Lord is at work here" when he sees the "remarkable history of the faith in this place and the work that our administration's done to make sure that this democracy in the Middle East, that this Jewish state, remains."
Of course, Pompeo is not alone in his assertion that Trump may have been divinely anointed so he could spread his good work, not only across the land but around the world.
In January, Sanders told CBN she believes God wanted Trump to win the 2016 election.
"I think God calls all of us to fill different roles at different times and I think that he wanted Donald Trump to become president, and that's why he's there," Sanders told the CBN's David Brody and Jennifer Wishon in an interview. "I think he has done a tremendous job in supporting a lot of the things that people of faith really care about."
Yep, I'd say so.
Like cheating on his wife and paying hush money, perhaps in violation of the law, to keep it quiet.
Like telling thousands of lies to the American people.
Like bilking people out of money they earned working for him.
Like spewing rhetoric that causes hate and division.
It was amazing to read that a Fox News poll shows that nearly half of Republicans and more than half of white Evangelicals believe God wanted Trump to be president. Now, the Secretary of State, no less, is joining the Press Secretary in expressing belief in such nonsense.
