I don't know about you, but I've had enough of Donald Trump.
The tipping point was this report in The Washington Post that Trump is suggesting that voters will demand that he remain in office even beyond two terms. He keeps saying that. It started a year ago, and he won't stop. Who in hell does he think he is?
Does he not understand that the U.S. Constitution (which he pretty much ignores anyway) limits the term of the president to two consecutive terms? Does he even care?
And what makes him think he's even going to be reelected to a second term? Hate to break the news to you, Mr. President, but so far even your own internal polls are saying you've hit the skids and are on the way out the door. The fact that those polls were leaked resulted in Trump giving the axe to three pollsters who had been working for his campaign. The man was hacked! Yea, those polls were in March, but later external polls continue to show the same.
Increasing numbers of people are seeing through this charlatan's charade.
Here's a hilarious comment that turned up on my Facebook feed today after that Post article was posted:
The other day I read another Facebook post in which the author said he has been resisting the idea of impeachment because he felt it would be harmful to the country to have such a divisive debate underway and because it's obvious that the Mitch McConnell Senate wouldn't convict. So, it would be a waste of time, he reasoned, since McConnell probably wouldn't even allow a vote on any articles of impeachment approved by the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives.
Unfortunately, when I went back to Facebook to find that post so I could repost it here, it seemed to have disappeared. But the author went on to say he's changed his mind given the many abuses imposed by this would-be dictator. He said he now supports impeachment by the House because he doesn't want to tell his kids that he did nothing to rid our nation of this ego-maniacal tyrant. And, he wants Trump to have to live with the knowledge that he would be one of only three presidents in the history of this nation to have been impeached.
I've been wrestling with the same dilemma.
But on top of those reasons, I've opposed impeachment because if it did succeed, Vice President Pence would become president and, in my view, he's just as dangerous as Trump, only in different ways. And, I'd hate to see him having the power of incumbency going into the 2020 election. I shudder to think what would happen to religious freedom, women's rights, LGBTQ rights, efforts to achieve equality in all walks of life if Pence were elected president.
We'd go from a president who spends Christmas at the White House cheating on his wife (according to Michael Wolfe's book, Siege) to a president who won't go to a business dinner meeting with a woman without his wife at his side.
So, my reasoning has been that it would be best for our country for Congress to conduct their investigations, hold Trump and his administration accountable for their misdeeds, make sure the electorate is well aware of their findings, and send him to defeat in 2020.
But with every passing day I keep leaning closer to agreeing with that Facebook poster. It's just getting to be too much. He creates crises after crises and then magically comes up with solutions. The crisis on the southern border is a classic example. But now, this pending crisis with Iran, in my view, is even more dangerous.
He withdrew the U.S. out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, which President Obama had agreed to, and now the world faces the danger of Iran having nuclear weapons. And, made desperate by Trump's economic sanctions, he says Iran has attacked two oil tankers in an attempt to drive up crude oil prices and, according to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, attempted to shoot down a U.S. surveillance aircraft. However, U.S. allies are questioning what really happened to those tankers.
Nevertheless, all options are on the table, Pompeo said today on Face the Nation, including military actions.
These things just keep on coming. America may be on the brink of another armed conflict and Trump has the audacity to suggest that the American people will just clamor for him to serve another two terms? "To Keep America Great Again?"
Are you kidding me?
