Warning his diehard supporters that Democrats are coming after them and all they hold dear, President Trump is using his impeachment to whip up their fervor and gin up contributions for his reelection campaign.
You will find the image above on his Facebook page along with this pitch:
"Last night, Radical Democrats voted to take away YOUR vote in the 2016 election. It’s us against THEM! I am calling on YOU to fight back by helping us CRUSH our $4M goal. Donate NOW for a 3X-MATCH!"
No doubt, that will work.
The question that remains is what will happen in the Senate, assuming the House-passed articles of impeachment are sent their for trial. There seems to be some question as to when, or even if, that will happen.
Today, The New York Times reported that Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she would wait to see what the trial in the Senate would look like before sending the two articles of impeachment there, leaving the timing in doubt. The concern is the likelihood that a Senate trial will be stacked, with Senate GOP leaders determined to rush the process and deliver vindication for Trump without hearing from crucial White House witnesses who Trump has prevented from testifying.
After all, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has publicly stated that he will closely coordinate with the White House to assure Trump's acquittal, and Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Lindsey Graham has said he doesn't need to hear any facts, that he'll do everything possible to make certain the matter is dispensed with quickly.
Meanwhile, it keeps getting nuttier and nuttier at the White House with a report now out that some Trumpers there, perhaps even Trump himself, believe that Hillary Clinton deliberately threw the election so Trump would win and then be impeached.
Yes, we all know that Trump is paranoid and thinks everyone is out to get him. But this is the absolute height of lunacy.
